Practice Manager

The Ark Animal Hospital is a busy small animal veterinary hospital with a team of dedicated and passionate veterinary professionals. The team consists currently of 6 Veterinarians, 8 Veterinary nurses, 3 animal care attendants and 2 administration staff member. We are based in Palmsterston and provide a comprehensive range of veterinary services for dogs, cats, exotic and unusual pets and wildlife.

We are a complex business and provide a diverse range of services to a wide variety of organisations outside the normal. We provide veterinary programs to a large range of remote indigenous communities and a range of animal organistions.

Additionally the charity ArkAid Inc is located within the clinic and provides treatment to over 2000 wildlife patients a year.

The Practice Manager primary duty is coordination activities in the clinic, manage the operations, staff and business processes to ensure the success of the clinic. The practice manager will also be responsible for ensuring the efficiency of business operations as well as setting strategic goals for the future.

Key Responsibilities

  • At all times, uphold and actively endorse the company vision, mission and shared core values.
  • Manage and motivate employees, recruit employees, organise training and development of employees according to company policies and employment laws, and ensure relevant HR procedures
  • Supervision of staff including performance review and daily activities.
  • Liase and work with suppliers, sales representatives and charities.
  • Oversee budget.
  • Maintain and/or purchases supplies and equipment in coordination with practice owner.
  • Management of business maintenance, IT and other essential in-practice systems.
  • Oversee policies and procedures.

The Practice Manager reports to the practice owner. A friendly personality, exceptional organizational skills and strategic thinking is necessary for this job.

Education and experience

  • At least 4 years experience in a Manager role;
  • Demonstrated leadership  and people management skills;
  • Exceptional organisation skills with the ability to identify, plan or provide coaching for your team members;
  • Familiarity with office management procedures and accounting principles;
  • Exceptional relationship management skills and client focus;
  • Actively focused on growing the business;
  • Ability to manage and communicate with vets and vet nurses on the business operational requirements;
  • A high level of experience with Microsoft suite and practice management software programs;
  • Customer focused and can do attitude.

You’ll enjoying working in a supportive team, with the opportunity to further develop your skills. The position would be full time, with an average 38 hr week and the usual holiday and personal leave entitlements. Pay is dependent upon experience and is expected to be above award for the right candidate.

Veterinarian

A position exists for a veterinarian to join us at The Ark. The Ark Animal Hospital is an established and expanding five vet practice in Darwin, Northern Territory, the fasted expanding region in Australia.

We treat predominantly small animals but are also the main provider of veterinary care for exotics and wildlife in the Darwin region.

In addition The Ark is the leading provider of Dog Health Programs in indigenous communities.

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Minimum 2 years’ practicing experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of veterinary practice operations
  • Enthusiasm for ongoing learning and excellent communication skills
  • Enjoy the varied work and wants to make a difference in the lives of our patients
  • Interest in community work, wildlife and exotics is optional but we are happy to provide training and support to the successful candidate.

Salary is above award and commensurate with experience. After hours is shared roster. Further education, particular interest and professional development is supported (financially) and encouraged.
